A marching band of over 200 members requires a fair amount of equipment, from instruments and uniforms to food and water to a sound system and all the carts to move everything to the field. So, how does all this stuff get where it belongs all the time, you ask? Pit Crew is responsible for loading, unloading, and staging band equipment at football games and marching band competitions. The Keystone Cops like crew that runs all of the stationary percussion (The pit) onto the field.
The 60 seconds of furious activity before and after the band performs is the really glamorous part of the job. The rest is all done behind the scenes. Loading and unloading three trucks worth of instruments, uniforms, food and water early in the morning or late at night. Pit crew is a lot of work but a great way to support the band and can be a lot of fun as well. We have a tradition of throwing in just enough craziness to keep us all sane through a busy marching season.
If you are interested in helping out drop an email to Pit crew and we will add you to the email list so you can help out.
